Andover schools appoints new superintendent

A new superintendent has been selected for the Andover Public School District.

Dr. Magda C. Parvey will be the next Superintendent of the district. Dr. Parvey comes from Middletown, Connecticut, where she has been serving a Chief Academic Officer. Her previous roles include Chief Academic Officer in New Rochelle, New York; Interim Superintendent of the City School District of New Rochelle; and Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

She attended Adelphi University where she earned a Master of Arts in educational leadership and technology and a Master of Science degree in elementary education. Her doctorate in education in administration and supervision was earned at Fordham University.

No doubt now updating her Business Cards, Dr. Parvey is committed to student-centric decisions and has a vision of collaborative leadership. Her goal in the district is to promote a culture of open communication, professional and positive engagement, and continuous learning. A rigorous interview process was held during which 10 highly qualified candidates were presented to the Preliminary Screening Committee, which then selected five candidates for full interviews.

Dr. Parvey was one of two finalists for the position, the other being Dr. Stephen Zadravec, Superintendent of the Portsmouth School Department in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

She will begin her work as superintendent on Thursday, July 1.
