The Collins Center for the Performing Arts at Andover High School is currently undergoing renovations, and the project is also running on budget and on schedule.
Deputy director of plants and facilities for the town, Edwin Ataide, said that lest spring Andover Town Meeting voted to fund $2 million of the renovations. He added that there had been some damage caused by rainwater seeping into the gap between the structural walls of the building and its façade and so the entire exterior of the building is being replaced.
Renovations got underway the week before the end of the school year and expected completion of the project is October.
Update to the right side and front of the building have been completed before the start of school as planned. Interior renovations that include repairs to the bathrooms, ceilings, and dressing rooms are being timed to have little impact on the running of the school. Ataide said that the building will seem like new once the project is completed.
Manager of energy and utilities, Janet Nicosia, added that once the project is completed the façade will be more energy efficient and cooling and heating costs will be reduced.
