Louisville records impressive development application total for 2022

Data shows developers continued to be eager to invest in Louisville’s future in 2022, presenting high hopes for the city’s 2023 fortunes.

Last year, the Government Office of Planning and Design Services for Louisville Metro received over 3,100 applications, a decade high for the city. Those number exclude applications for signage or short-terms rentals. New or replaced signage applications were 595, while short-term new rental approval added up to 904.

Signage is among the products supplied by business card printing services.

These figures should be of interest to businesses considering a move or expansion to Louisville. As Director Emily Liu from the Office of Planning and Design Services explained it:

“These numbers show that there is significant interest in investing in Louisville across the board, whether it is a single-family homeowner seeking to add an accessory dwelling unit their property or a company proposing a large development with commercial and residential uses.”

Other information relevant to the city’s future business outlook include the fact that in 2022, boards and commissions of the Louisville Metro Government gave the go-ahead to add 1,105 new single-family units and 5,000 new muti-family units to Louisville’s housing supply.

On the commercial and industrial development side, plans for over 7.1 million square feet were approved. Moreover, in this past year, Metro Council approved amending the Land Development Code to allow childcare facilities in every residential zone, with the stipulation that they acquire a conditional use permit.
