KHS launches fundraising for Louisville campus

The Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) has announced plans to build a $37 million Louisville campus and has begun a major fundraising to add to the $21 million it already has.

The 54,000-square-foot facility will be located near the airport on the 4900 block of Preston Highway and once completed will replace two of the Kentucky Humane Society’s five current locations. The new animal and community campus will offer a low-cost public veterinary clinic, modern adoption spaces and expanded services for pet owners.

Expectations for the new location is that it will provide 30 percent more housing for cats and dogs, facilitating around 7,000 adoptions per year and offer pet support and free counseling to over 8,000 families a year while also delivering human education programing.

Brochure printing services are invaluable for educating the public on any number of subjects.

Taking into account the tornadoes and flooding that have occurred in Kentucky this year the facility will also be available as an emergency safe haven for pets. Kentucky Humane Society representative Alisa Gray explained:

"This new facility will be a hub for those disasters as needed. We will have a dedicated space where we can set up temporary housing for over 100 animals quickly."

It is anticipated that the project will take between 16 and 18 months to finish. Once complete the plan is to transition in phases to the new facility as they close their East and Main campuses.
