Governor proposes budget boost for Waterfront Park

In a recent announcement, Governor Andy Beshear said he hopes to get Louisville’s Waterfront Park $10m closer to its goal of raising $12m by June 2022 with a proposal to include the expenditure in Kentucky’s 2022 budget.

The Waterfront Park project was created way back in 1986, with the latest expansion to west Louisville expected to cost $50m. That expansion, however, has been in a holding pattern during the pandemic. The next phase of the project will be 22-acres that will contain children’s play works and an event space.

Beshear commented that the project, would connect all of Louisville, which he referred to as an investment in the future. The funds the Governor will be proposing the state legislature provide would go to supporting the park’s expansion from 10th to 14th Street.

Blueprints are larger than a regular printer can handle and each copy must be clear so that every group of workers on a project can read them. Print shops are used to create clear oversized Copies.

Speaking of the latest phase of the project, Beshear said:

“It will include plazas, gardens, a large observation pier at the river’s edge that can accommodate events, performances and other gatherings. The project is going to connect downtown Louisville and west Louisville along the water creating one Waterfront.”

It is expected that the Kentucky legislature will be back in session in January.
