Give A Day month returns for April

As it has since 2011, Louisville is holding a ‘Give A Day’, which for 2023 will encompass a month, providing plenty of time for individuals and organizations to make and implement their plans for providing services within the community.

Volunteers, whether part of a group or individuals, can select from an array of projects, such as constructing beds for students at Jefferson County Public Schools, participating in the Brightside Community Wide Cleanup of litter, planting a poetry garden, or assembling medical kits. Also, according to organizers at Metro United Way, which serves as a link between projects and volunteers, blood donation is always an option.

Companies often adopt nonprofits and pay their employees to “volunteer” for days of service, information they usually include in material sent to brochure printing services.

Mayor Craig Greenberg explained:

"Give A Day has become a part of the cultural life of our city, and year after year it's helping to make Louisville stronger. People, businesses, and nonprofits from across Louisville come together to volunteer on so many amazing projects that help their neighbors live better lives."

A significant number of Jefferson County Public School (JCPS) students participate in the yearly month of service. Dr. Marty Pollio, JCPS Superintendent, has expressed belief that children today are socially aware and more likely to engage in community activity.

Louisville’s month of giving begins April 1 and continues on throughout April 30.
