BP seeks full ownership of Louisville-based Thorntons

Since 2019, convenience store Thorntons has been owned jointly by BP and ArcLight Capital Partners. According to an announcement by BP, that will soon change, as the oil and gas giant says it will be taking full ownership of the chain.

Once BP has acquired the majority share, it will be one of the Midwest’s leading convenience store operators, with 208 locations owned and operating across the following states Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Florida, and Tennessee. Such acquisitions are often coupled with supporting printed materials to raise awareness, including brochure printing.

The evolving convenience retail sector, according to BP, will see an increase in demand. BP plans to grow its number of convenience sites from its present number of about 2,000 to over 3,000 in its global network by 2030.

A senior vice president at BP, Greg Franks, is quoted by The Lane Report as saying in response to the acquisition:

“Thorntons has generated long-term customer loyalty over the last 50 years because of its best-in-class operations. We are excited to welcome them into our family.”

BP pointed to Thorntons’ successful digital presence and customer-focused app as a tactic to boost the digital solutions required to develop personalized and innovative offers.

Although no financial details were forthcoming concerning the agreement, the deal is anticipated to close later in 2021.
