This latest construction zone will extend from Broadway to Bonnycastle and will have 20 bump-outs to provide pedestrians with more time to cross intersections, thereby making them less likely to be hit by vehicles.
Saying she was excited to see the construction project continuing forward, Cassie Chambers Armstrong, a metro councilwoman representing the neighborhoods surrounding the area, described Bardstown Road as the backbone linking all the Highlands neighborhoods. However, she went on to describe that backbone as having become one of the city’s most dangerous corridors.

The improvements will not be simply utilitarian but also aesthetic, with trees to be planted within the curb extensions.
Armstrong was quoted by WDRB as saying:
"All of the money for the landscaping was raised by people in the neighborhood. That's $150,000 that neighbors donated because they believed in this project the city is doing."
According to Armstrong, the project, for which the research began back in 2018, should be finished within the next couple of months. The last work to be done will include taking out the poles that supported the old lane lights, followed by repaving and repainting.
