What's Happening in Overland Park, KS…

Overland Park workshop to be for the birds

Mother Nature can sometimes use a helping hand, and people in Overland Park will soon have an opportunity to discover how easy it can be to act as a good friend to the birds.

The Burroughs Audubon Society and the Missouri River Bird Observatory will be welcoming local nature lovers for an activity that will help to prevent window strikes, which are often fatal to songbirds and other species. The importance of keeping cats indoors will also be discussed so that homes can be both avian- and feline-friendly.

In the morning, the registrants will take to the outdoors so they can do some bird watching, and as they go, they will discuss how to make windows safe for outdoor birds by using a variety of methods.

After lunch, the function will continue with a special programming offered by the Lakeside Nature Center, which will serve as the venue for the day. There will be an assortment of activities to enjoy, and there may even be an avian ambassador on site for the crowd to meet.

Members of the public often enjoy learning about how to be good environmental stewards. Workshop organizers will be able to order copies of handouts and an assortment of promotional products for the occasion.

This free day of educational fun will be taking place on January 15, starting at 9:00 am. It is part of the Helping Birds series.
