Overland Park museum plans kids' terrarium workshop

A well-constructed terrarium can survive for many years with minimal care, and an Overland Park workshop will teach its younger citizens how they can build one using a few simple materials.

The Museum at Prairiefire has plans in the works that will see kids from the ages of 6 to 10 build their own ecosystem under glass during a make-and-take session. Members may participate free of charge, and the general public is also welcome for a ticket fee of $5.

Attendees will learn how they can use a pop bottle, plants, soil and some other simple materials to build their terrarium, making discoveries about the STEM subjects at the same time. A discussion of the process of photosynthesis, plant life cycles, ecosystems, and how plants utilize carbon dioxide and give off oxygen will all be part of the activity, It advised that parents or an older sibling remain on hand to help the younger participants.

A workshop that makes learning fun can spark an interest in science among kids that they see through into their adult lives. Plant care tip sheets and other educational materials for an event can be prepared by stationery printers.

The crew at the Museum at Prairiefire has two dates on offer for its Pop Bottle Terrarium session. They are scheduled for March 2and 7, and are available as of the time of writing.
