What's Happening in Overland Park, KS…

Opening delayed for Overland Park farmstead

The seasonal opening of a family-favorite destination in Overland Park, Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead, has been delayed because of the international coronavirus outbreak.

The farmstead has been a popular destination for families in the area ever since it opened in 1971. It now features over 250 birds and animals, and is designed to education children on farming, growing vegetables and raising livestock.

The farmstead also has an accurate and culturally sensitive Kanza Indian encampment, and a replica of a one-room schoolhouse from the early 1900's. Activities include animals feeding, cow milking, a blacksmith's shop, and a fishing pond where visitors can actually try to catch a fish.

The farmstead is named after Deanna Rose, a female Overland Park police officer who died in the line of duty in January, 1985. Rose was active with the farmstead and loved animals.

Admission fees are $3 per person. Children under two can enter for free. Some of the activities at the farm require an extra fee. Attractions such as these can use local print shops for signage, programs, maps and more.

The grand opening of the farmstead was originally scheduled for April 1, but is now scheduled for Saturday, April 11. This could change again with new advisories from health officials in Johnson County and the State of Kansas, so check with the farm directly before visiting.
