Loved ones to be honored on the Day of the Dead
The Central Avenue Dia de los Muertos Parade and celebration is taking place this November in nearby Kansas City. It is a presentation of the Central Avenue Betterment Association.
Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican celebration that honors the memory of loved ones who have passed on. The festival will take place over eight blocks of Central Avenue, especially Bethany Park. There will be live musical entertainment on five stages, calavera face painting (which is making the face look like a skull), and walking skeleton figures called Catrinas.
Vendors will be on hand to sell arts and crafts like jewelry, paintings and clothing. Food and drink will also be available for purchase.
The parade, or procession, takes place beginning at 6:00 PM and will travel along Central Avenue from 6th Street to 15th Street. Participants are asked to bring a picture or souvenir of the loved one they wish to celebrate.
People from all over, including Overland Park, are sure to be interested in attending. Local flyer printing firms are often asked to provide the advertising material for such events.
The parade and celebration will take place on November 7 from 2:00 to 9:00 PM on Central Avenue and Bethany Park. To learn more about this event, contact the Central Avenue Betterment Association at 896-4947.
