Deaf Arts Festival comes to the Overland Park area
The Deaf Arts Festival is taking place this June in Olathe. It is an opportunity for deaf artists to network with one another and to show the community their art works.
Part of the festival is also a five-day artists’ retreat which will be held at the Kansas School for the Deaf. Other events will include the Meet the Artists Soiree and a wine and cheese reception. Guests will get to meet the artists taking part in the festival and enjoy appetizers and drinks. There will also be raffles taking place during the evening.
This year, the Deaf Arts Festival is part of the Downtown Olathe Art Festival. Deaf artists will have the chance to sell their art works alongside other area artists.
One of the major events of the festival will be the DeVIA Gala to be held in Overland Park on June 29. It will be paying respect to the late deaf artist and actor Chuck Baird. Guests will enjoy cocktails, food, a live auction, and dancing. Entertainment will be provided by Noah Buchholz, Jim Jones, and Ruthie Jordan.
It is very likely that Overland Park print companies will be helping the organizers of the festival prepare with products such as signs and banners.
The Deaf Arts Festival will take place from June 26 - 30. Tickets for the Artists Soiree to be held on June 27 at the Deaf Cultural Center are $20 for the general public or $15 for DeVIA members. Tickets for the Gala are $65.
