Chefs to bring Portuguese flavor to Overland Park
The Culinary Center of Kansas City will be highlighting the cuisine and culture of Portugal in a special event this November.
The event, dubbed ‘Taste of Portugal’ will be a multicourse dinner prepared by Portugese-American chefs Danny DaSilva and Manuel Silva. Each dish will be carefully paired with a wine from Portugal's Duoro River valley. Between the courses will be music by Ensemble Iberica, featuring vocalists Tania DaSilva and Nathalie Pires.
The special dinner will take place on the evening of November 9 at the Culinary Center's headquarters in Overland Park. Portuguese food may not be as immediately recognizable to American palates as certain other European cuisines, but it features a rich combination of Mediterranean ingredients and spices imported from former colonies. Perhaps the best known of these spices is piri piri, likely to be featured during the Taste of Portugal dinner. Seafood is heavily featured in the cuisine, with Portugal consuming more fish per capita than any other European country.
The Culinary Center of Kansas City, located in downtown Overland Park, is a venue dedicated towards spreading culinary education. Educational events such as this are sometimes advertised by means like flyer printing or poster printing. It holds cooking classes throughout the year, as well as special events like this one, and interactive "cooking parties" for large groups.
