There will be a sweet treat awaiting runners competing in road races next month in Crown Point.
The Donut Dash will include 10K, 5K, and 2K runs or walks through the streets of Crown Point, with finishers rewarded with tasty donuts and other snacks.
Participants in the 5K and 10K races have the option of being chip timed. All runners have a chance at awards for top overall finishes, or top three in 18 different age group categories. All registrants receive a T-shirt and the first 300 runners who sign up will get finisher medals.
The Donut Dash will be held in support of the Pick 7 Food Pantry in Crown Point and the Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana.
The food pantry assists the community by providing food items to those in need. The learning center, in nearby Hammond, was opened in 1999 as part of a network of facilities that honor the Challenger 51L crew. The 15,000 square foot center offers hands-on education in critical thinking and problem solving.
A number of local businesses get involved in the race, aiding in covering overhead costs. Sponsors of events such as this often use banner printing to advertise their products and services.
The Donut Dash will be held on Saturday, February 7 with the first race starting at 7:45 am at Matthias Hall in Crown Point.
