A free community concert will be featured at the upcoming Sand & Steel Art Festival in Valparaiso near Crown Point.
The South Shore Orchestra will perform at the festival as a kick-off to summer. The regional group was founded in 2004 and continues its mission of promoting orchestral music through community performances along Indiana’s south shore and beyond.
Musical groups such as this often use poster printing to advertise their upcoming concerts.
The outdoor concert will not only mark the opening of the art festival, but also be a celebration of America’s upcoming 250th birthday. America@250: A Musical Celebration will be lead by Maestro Troy Webdell. The orchestra will be playing patriotic music as well as a selection of movie scores from Indiana Jones by composer John Williams.
The Sand & Steel Festival is aptly named for the geography and industry of Northwest Indiana and created to celebrate the many artists in the region.
A large variety of art from all mediums will be on display and available for sale. In addition to the fine arts vendors, there will be special performances and participatory activities.
The Sand & Steel Art Festival will be held from June 26 to 28, 2026 at Central Park Plaza in Valparaiso near Crown Point. The concert will open the festival at 7 pm on June 26. In the event of rain, the orchestra will perform in the Valparaiso High School auditorium.
