Ghostly walking tour in Crown Point
Halloween adventures will spill over into November in Crown Point with a haunted walking tour.
Presented by Chaos Haunted and Historical Tours, the 90-minute evening excursion will visit the best known area locations for experiencing spirits and other paranormal activity. Tour groups such as this often benefit from poster printing to promote their events.
From many of the town's historic buildings and cemeteries have come some of Northwest Indiana's best historical haunted stories. Crown Point's Old Lake County Jail is reportedly visited by many of its former inhabitants, who continue to hang around even since the jail has closed. There are claims that apparitions have been seen and voices heard in the cells and hallways.
Another spooky spot is the town's courthouse where boards squeak and furniture supposedly moves without explanation. Visitors talk of encounters with a strange woman in a white gown who has also been seen all in black.
Crown Point’s rumored spirits have attracted ghost hunters, who investigated in 2009 and found the old library and Carnegie Center were rife with mysterious phenomena. They reportedly heard whispers, saw books fall off shelves, and felt as if they were being watched.
The haunted walking tour will be held on Friday, November 1 from 7:30 to 9:00 pm, starting at the Crown Point courthouse. Tickets are available online.
