There will be more than a beer garden at Oktoberfest in Crown Point as a variety of family-friendly activities are planned for the upcoming annual event.
Face painting, hayrides, a bean bag tournament, and a pie eating contest will highlight a day of fun in Bulldog Park. It's the 15th year the City of Crown Point has presented its version of the well-known German celebration. Live music is scheduled throughout the day, including two traditional German Polka Bands, followed in the evening by a party and dance band.
In addition to the beer garden offerings, food vendors will be on site with a range of tastes and flavors, including Bavarian-inspired cuisine, pizza, pretzels, tacos, ice cream, and more.
Oktoberfest began in Munich in 1810, originally as a two-week royal wedding celebration. Since then, it has continued to be recognized annually in many American cities and around the world. In Crown Point it's the kick-off to the fall event season and a chance for the community to gather and celebrate outside before the weather changes. This year marks a return to a one-day celebration following an expansion to two days last year.
