Calandriello mentioned that he would be leaving the post because he has other commitments in his life, such as family and a law practice that are making it impossible to commit fully to the job. He made the announcement in a statement where he said:
“I have decided not to run for Trustee or Mayor in this April's election. Serving effectively as a Trustee is a full-time job and at this time my most important job is to be a supporting and loving husband and father.”
When looking back at his time as a member of the board, Candriello expressed his pride at everything the village has accomplished. He pointed out that the village is in a strong position financially, and is also honoured to have been involved in long-term infrastructure and development projects such as parks and roads. Completed projects are often included in brochure printing to promote towns.
Calandriello adds that one of his proudest claims is that he never voted in favor of increasing property taxes, and always pushed to keep the property tax portion in Orland Park below seven cents for every property tax dollar.
