A $400,000 state subsidy is being used on the project, bringing the total expected investment to around $2.4m. This excludes the $343,323 used for construction and bidding management services authorized last autumn, as well as prospective expenditures to replace the parking lot. The concept calls for six new pickleball courts, a basketball court, a playground, a skate park, a native garden, a walking path loop, and the first zip line in the village.
Nicholas Dowden Park is located in the town's south-central area. A master plan was created in 2020 thanks to a village-wide project to revive and renovate parks. Graphic design is often used to put together visualizations of upcoming projects.
The chair of Libertyville’s parks and recreation committee, Pete Garrity, commented to say:
“We're following through on our commitment to invest there and we're executing. It's more than a refresh, it's a renovation.”
The project aims to turn the facility into a meeting place for inhabitants from surrounding areas to comfortably walk or bike to, as well as provide a variety of activities and sports. The work is expected to begin in April, weather permitting, and the goal is to reopen portions of the park this coming fall.
