The entrant who wins this year’s John Etheredge Award for the Northern Illinois High School Journalist of the Year will win a scholarship worth $1,000. The competition was recently renamed in honor of a long-serving board member at NINA named John Etheredge. The competition is open to high school seniors who are graduating and intend to take up journalism-related courses in college. Printing services could be used to publish Journals, articles, and newspapers.
The winner of last year’s award was Victoria Feng from Buffalo Grove, who graduated from Adlai E. Stevenson High School. According to acting NINA president John Lampinen, the scholarship competition was created so that high school students are encouraged to pursue careers in journalism, starting with studying the craft in college.
Lampinen also stated that:
“As a professional organization dedicated to advancing Print and online journalism education and training in Northern Illinois, we are excited at the prospect of awarding this scholarship to a student who shows promise for a career in our profession.”
The competition’s winner will also be awarded a plaque and will have an article written about them that will be published in NINA’s online newsletter. NINA’s news coverage letter extends 29 counties in northern Illinois including Libertyville.
Applicants have until April 7 to make their submissions.
