Local library to hold literature kick-off

The Cook Memorial Public Library will be launching its annual "One Book, One Community” event this weekend.

The event, now in its sixth year, is designed to encourage community members to read a book and discuss its important themes and meanings.

This year's book is "This Is How It Always Is,” by author Laurie Frankel. The book, which is based on Frankel's own life, tells the story of a troubled child who transforms into a kind, caring, and compassionate young woman, thanks to the help and guidance of her family. According to the library and event participants, the book was selected because of its timely themes and ability to encourage others to see beyond their own lives and acknowledge the difficulties that surround some children and young adults.

Participants will be encouraged to read the book and then discuss its themes and important questions. Frankel will be in attendance at this year’s event, and participants are invited to have a conversation with the author and ask any questions.

Events like these are meant to stir thoughtful discussion among community members. Libertyville residents often see marketing material made by local Print shops – including Flyers and Posters – related to events like this.

The kick-off is taking place this Sunday, December 12, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. For more information on the One Book event series, interested participants can visit its website.
