Hiking group seeks new members

Traci Fein, a resident of Vernon Hills, founded Lake County Hikers in January 2022, and is seeking new members to join the existing number of over 1,000 members.

Fein enjoyed hiking Lake County's Forest Preserves, however, said she felt uncomfortable doing so alone. As a result, she made the decision to form a club of others who shared her love for the wilderness.

Every week, the group goes on a 6-mile hike in one of the county's forest preserves such as the Old School Forest Preserve in Libertyville. The trip is followed by a drink and/or a meal at a nearby restaurant.

The club is made up of adults who enjoy the great outdoors. This includes moms who enjoy a few hours to themselves, university students who are passionate about environmental issues and native species in the area, and empty-nesters searching for a new hobby. Hikers of all skill levels are welcome to join. Hiking equipment could feature the Logo Design of the company that made it.

Many group members view trekking outdoors as a way to improve their physical well-being and mental health. Studies have shown that even brief outdoor time can lower stress hormones, improve blood circulation, and induce a peaceful feeling.

The hikes draw up to twenty individuals each week. Some visitors come once every month, while others come every week. Hikes in Lake County's forest preserves are frequently undertaken by Lake County Hikers in collaboration with McHenry and Cook County Hikers.

Those who wish to join an upcoming hike can start by joining the Facebook group.
