Evanston excursion to forage for wild edibles

This Mother's Day weekend, Evanston families will be able to treat mom to a unique experience that will introduce the wide variety of edible plants that occupy local urban green spaces.

Dave Odd, who is a professional forager, will share his knowledge with the group of registrants who take part in a tour of Chicago’s Humboldt Park. The participants will gather at Boathouse Cafe before they set out, and in honor of Mother’s Day, moms can register for free.

The group will walk the park, looking for edible wild plants and perhaps even some early mushrooms. At least 50 species will be on the list, and tickets for the activity are $40 each. The run time for the excursion is two hours, and anyone who would like to ask questions or needs more information is asked to call 847-409-8623. Everyone who Signs up is reminded to wear comfortable walking shoes.

Introducing members of the public to the bounty that can be found all around them, even in an urban area, can help to create a new crop of environmental stewards. Identification guides may be prepared for an event by area brochure printing companies

This guided visit to Humboldt Park will begin at 10:00 am on May 7. Spaces are limited, so anyone who would like to sign up to take part along with their mom may want to register as soon as possible.
