Veteran rocker coming to Edwardsville
An artist whose songs were staples of 1970s and 1980s rock is coming to Edwardsville.
John Waite is bringing his “An Evening with John Waite—Unplugged” performance to the Wildey Theatre, where he will perform hits from his long and successful career. Waite has been a solo artist since 1982, and before that, was the lead singer for two bands, Bad English, and The Babys.
A native of Lancaster in Lancashire, England, Waite's international breakthrough came with the release of his second studio album, “No Brakes.” The huge hit “Missing You” came from this album, and soared to the top spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. “Missing You” went to Number One on two other Billboard charts as well – Album Rock Tracks and Adult Contemporary. When the song hit the charts, it dethroned “What's Love Got to Do With It?” by Tina Turner, who liked Waite's tune so much she later recorded her version of it. “No Brakes” went to Gold status in the United States, and Platinum in the U.K.
A review of Waite in concert said he was as good as ever, and interacted directly with fans:
“He squeezed my hand and then gave me a guitar pick. His music is amazing - his voice so clear.”
Waite will appear at the Wildey Theatre on June 20, at 8:00 pm. Poster printing can generate fun advertising for events like this.
