Workshop helps Edwardsville homesteaders raise chickens

Families in Edwardsville with an interest in raising chickens can start building their knowledge next month, as a local homesteader has announced an informative workshop in town.

The shED Talk: Raising Backyard Chickens discussion has opened registration to individuals in the community and Edwardsville area, providing them with the information and tips to help them enjoy the perks of a healthy coop. The experience is designed to be engaging, with Katie Bell, the speaker, answering questions about the basics.

Bell, who works with the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign Extension Office, will explain what goes into daily care for the chickens, local considerations, feeding tips, and housing options. It’s an opportunity for practical guidance to hit the ground running when raising chickens at home. Informative events like this can use brochure printing to provide a substantial amount of information through a single handy document for attendees to read.

The session is limited to 20 seats, and interested parties are encouraged to reserve tickets early. Guests of all ages are welcome to attend. Some learning experiences may be held outdoors, weather permitting. The rest of the workshop will be held indoors.

The Watershed Nature Center in Edwardsville will host the learning session on Monday, April 20th, starting at 6:00 PM. Tickets can be reserved online, and general admission is free of charge.
