German cultural celebration brings high spirits to Edwardsville

A spring German cultural celebration is on the docket in Edwardsville for this May, allowing area residents to connect with their heritage and celebrate with friends.

The 3rd Anniversary Maifest Celebration has been announced by an Edwardsville venue to share a traditional German celebration that occurs in the spring. Interested parties who have lederhosen are encouraged to bring and wear them to add to the festive atmosphere. Maifest is quite similar to the better-known Oktoberfest, but it is set in the spring and celebrates a different type of beer.

The traditional beer, Maibock, is brewed in the autumn and allowed to condition throughout the winter before being unveiled and shared when spring arrives. It has a golden color and has been described as smooth and malty by brewmasters and other industry experts. Organizers can promote such festivals with banner printing, combining colorful and eye-catching designs with sponsor logos and slogans.

In addition to the beer options, guests can enjoy traditional Bavarian dishes, live German tunes, Maibock specialty options, and never-ending friendliness, or gemütlichkeit to use a German word. The St. Louis Express Band will take the stage first, followed by the Wurst Bavarian Band at 6:00 PM.

The festival will be held at 307 North Main Street in Edwardsville, and it has been scheduled for Saturday, May 2 at noon. Interested families and beer enthusiasts can register online and attend for free.
