Tribute to rock legend in Edwardsville
A band is on the way to Edwardsville to pay tribute to a woman nicknamed the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.”
“Simply the Best” is a tribute show honoring the legendary Tina Turner. The singer fronting the group is Chicago’s Elisa Latrice, who has won acclaim for her renditions of Turner’s classics. Latrice brings her high-energy performance to all aspects of Turner’s career, from the days when she was half of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, to her huge success as a solo artist.
Tina Turner and her then-husband Ike were responsible for some of the biggest hits in rock, including “Proud Mary,” which won a Grammy—one of eight Turner has to her credit. After going solo, Turner continued to soar. Her 1984 album “Private Dancer” went multi-platinum and gave audiences “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” which won the Grammy as Record of the Year and hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Latrice won praise for her work on an album released by fellow Illinois-based guitarist, producer, singer/songwriter Larry Brown, Jr., who didn’t have to think twice about asking Latice to perform on his holiday album “Christmas with You”:
“Well, Larry was right . . . Latrice’s expressive vocals add the right touch of fun to the proceedings . . .”
Latrice will be at the Wildey Theatre on July 15 at 7.30 pm, where organizers of events like this can use poster printing to advertise the performance.
