Recently, the media has been reporting that Tesla, a larger manufacturer of electric-cars is planning to open a warehouse nearly 700,000-square-feet in Pontoon Beach at Gateway TradePort immediately south of Interstate 270.
The news has been picked up on by several sources, including the Courier-Tribune and Illinois Business Journal, which alludes to reports from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The location, off I-270 and Illinois Route 111 at 1202 TradePort Parkway, is about 10 miles from Edwardsville and will, if reports are true, provide employment opportunities to residents here and throughout the area.
The Courier-Tribune has reported that the company has plans for opening a large warehouse in the state. Other media sources have revealed that real estate company CBRE has made plans with Tesla to lease property the estate company owns in a Pontoon Beach industrial park.

An announcement from the Tesla company is that it will be opening a service center and a store about 30 miles from the location of the new warehouse. Moreover, Tesla has job postings that would appear to be related to the new warehouse.
Tesla’s recent third-quarter reports show its profits have more than doubled over that of the same period last year. According to the electric vehicle and solar panel producer, the Austin, Texas-based company’s earnings from July – September were $3.29bn.
Should these reported plans come to fruition, it will offer a considerable economic boost not only to Pontoon Beach, but the whole area.
