Shakespeare at SIUE this month

One of the most popular of Shakespeare's comedies, ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream’, will be performed at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) soon.

This production has been adapted by Chuck Harper, who is the Chair of the University's Department of Theater and Dance. He is also directing the show, which will be performed on campus, at the Metcalf Theater.

The play takes place in two entirely different locations: Athens, and a wood outside the city. The two are two different worlds, since Athens is real, where Duke Theseus is about to marry the Amazon Queen, Hippolyta, while the woods are magical and belong to the fairies, where King Oberon is feuding with his queen, Titania. As a result of their squabbling, an entire series of misunderstandings takes place.

Tickets are on sale now; SIUE students in summer school can see the show free of charge if they present their SIUE ID card. General admission is $15 for adults and $12 for everyone else. The performances are July 6, 7, 13, and 14 at 7:30 pm. On the Sundays of July 8 and 15, there are matinees at 2:00 pm.

Events like this can generate publicity if managers work with a poster printing company to create Posters advertising the show. The magical elements of this play could work well in this context.
