Ogres spotted in Edwardsville
A number of people have reported seeing ogres near the SIUE campus in Edwardsville.
However, this is not a cause for alarm, since they are in town to appear in “Shrek the Musical” later this month.
The stage musical is based on the hit 2001 movie from DreamWorks Animation, but the stage production features different music and an expanded script. However, the familiar, beloved characters are all there, including Shrek, Princess Fiona, and Donkey. The music is by Jeanine Tesori and the script is by David Lindsay Abaire.
In the show, the ogre Shrek, who would rather be left alone, sets out to rescue Princess Fiona, who would rather not be rescued. Along with the wise-cracking Donkey, Shrek runs into a number of colorful characters, including a bad-tempered cookie. People from other stories show up as well, including Puss in Boots, the Gingerbread Man, and Robin Hood. The Tony-winning production has been described by some as a romp that is suitable for people of all ages.
“Shrek: The Musical” opens July 10th and runs through to July 19th on selected dates. The venue is the Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (SIUE) campus Dunham Hall Theater, with exact days and times available on the university's website.
The show's production team could work with banner printers to create a fun streamer to hang on the theater during the run of the show.
