What's Happening in Edwardsville, IL…

Multi-instrumentalist to visit Edwardsville

An artist described as a “musician's musician” will appear in Edwardsville.

David Bromberg, a Philadelphia native, grew up in Tarrytown, New York, and went to school at Columbia University, where he studied guitar under Reverend Gary Davis. Davis was a renowned gospel and blues singer who was also an expert on the harmonica, guitar, and banjo, and who influenced many other artists including the Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan.

Davis taught Bromberg guitar, and took the younger man under his wing to mentor him. Bromberg is not only a guitarist, but also plays fiddle, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, dobro, and pedal steel guitar. The late Dr. John, an American icon himself, used the same terms to describe Bromberg.

Bromberg began releasing records in the 1970s, and in 2007 released the album “Try Me One More Time.” In 2008, the album was nominated for a Grammy in the “Best Traditional Folk Album” category.

A review of Bromberg in concert says the evening was:

“. . . a fitting capstone for an engaging night that spanned the breadth of American music, showcasing David's versatile skillset.”

Bromberg will be at the Wildey Theatre in Edwardsville on March 12, at 7.30 pm. His concert has been rescheduled from a previous date, and all tickets for that performance have automatically been transferred to the March date. Poster printing is frequently used to create colorful publicity for events like this.
