Green light given for Edwardsville family park
The Edwardsville City Council recently gave the go ahead to the construction of the Plummer Family Park, which is a sports park being built under the auspices of the ‘A Better Place to Play’ Campaign.
The campaign was begun to raise awareness of community parks, as well as raising funds to build them. The Plummer Family Park will be the second park built as part of this effort; the first, which was finished in 2016, is the Leon Corlew Park and Splash Pad. Construction of the Plummer park is expected to start this spring. Byrne & Jones Construction won the contract, which is worth $12.8m.
The new park will have four fields that can be used for either softball or baseball, including one that is accessible, six multipurpose fields, 12 pickleball courts, and a concession building. All the landscaping, lighting, roads, and parking that are necessary to support the park and its visitors are included in the project. Officials working on this type of project can use logo design to create new signs for the area.
Other amenities planned are walking trails, both inside the park and around its perimeter, as well as picnic pavilions, playgrounds, restrooms, and concessions, plus more than three acres of greenspace. It is also expected that festivals, flea markets, and farmers’ markets will use the park in future.
