Edwardsville welcomes the Peanuts gang
Fans of the hapless Charlie Brown have a treat in store when the Goshen Theatre Project presents ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ at St. John's Methodist Church in Edwardsville.
The show is based on the beloved television classic, which tells of Charlie Brown's attempts to direct his school's Christmas play. Charlie goes out to find a Christmas tree for the show, only to return to the theater with a half-dead little tree that is shedding its needles. The other kids taunt him about it, and he walks away downcast. However, the others rally round, decorate the tree, and give it to Charlie as a Christmas gift. The program has been broadcast every year since 1965.
The theatrical version differs from the animated special in several ways, says director Liz Enloe. In the theater, it is necessary to have sets and set changes, while animation has no physical limits. Enloe said the company had a successful run with ‘Peter Pan’ this summer, and wanted to follow it up with a Christmas show.
The play will be performed December 9th, 10th, and 11, with 7:00 pm performances on the 9th and 10th, and a 3:00 pm matinee on the 11th.Tickets for the play are $10.
Performances like this can be enhanced if organizers work with poster printing companies, which can create colorful placards advertising the show.
