Edwardsville theater offering $2 movies for the holidays
The Wildey Theatre in Edwardsville is planning a whole month of Christmas films suitable for people of all ages, with ratings of PG or PG-13 at the highest.
The Tuesday series will cost only $2. Theater manager Al Canal knows several of these films have become television staples, but adds there is nothing like seeing a film the way it was meant to be seen—on the big screen.
The fun began yesterday with a screening of ‘National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation’ at 7:00 pm. Next Tuesday, December 12, the film is the classic ‘Meet Me in St. Louis’, filmed in 1944. Starring Judy Garland, Mary Astor, and Margaret O'Brien, the film takes viewers to the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis, as four sisters try to come to terms with the idea of moving to New York.
‘A Christmas Story’ shows on December 19. This modern classic stars Ralphie, a youngster who tries to convince the adults in his life he wants a Red Ryder BB Gun, and is always met with the reply of “you'll shoot your eye out!”
The last film in the series is ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2’, showing on December 26. Two other films, ‘Elf’ and ‘The Polar Express’, will also play during December. The full schedule and prices are on the theater's website.
Events like this can benefit if managers work with a poster printing company to create and display posters listing the dates and times of the films.
