Edwardsville moves ahead with safety work proposal
At a recent meeting of city officials, the green light was given to plans for final engineering and architectural services for new Public Safety Facilities in Edwardsville.
At a joint meeting of the Public Safety Facilities Planning Committee and the Public Safety Committee in late January, it was recommended that the mayor should be authorized to head into a contract with FGM Architects, Inc., for professional services.
The contract will make FGM responsible for overseeing the new public safety facility and fire station planned for the SIUE campus. FGM is also responsible for any design engineering that remains on the joint project.
The budget for the project is currently between $16m and $18m for the two buildings, which are planned to comprise roughly 39,000 square feet in the safety building, and over 8,000 square feet for the fire station. A splash park was considered, though there are no current plans to build one. However, space has been left in the site plan for such a park to be added later.
Plans for the public safety building show it will consist of a two-story structure with a vehicle accessible bay for the fire department's apparatus, as well as a port for police use.
City officials might like to work with a flyer printing company on a mailer for residents, discussing the new facilities and how they will increase protection to the community.
