Blues coming to Edwardsville
A blues guitarist will be in Edwardsville soon, warming up the colder months.
Massachusetts native Albert Cummings was 12 when he began playing the banjo, but when he heard Stevie Ray Vaughn, he got interested in the guitar, and mastered the instrument. In 1997, he played for a friend's wedding reception, making his first public appearance as a guitarist.
In 1998, he participated in an open jam at the Northeast Blues Society, which gave him the right to participate in the International Blues Challenge, sponsored by the Blues Foundation, in 1999. That year he released “The Long Way,” an album he produced independently with the band he had formed, Swamp Yankee.
Bluesprint magazine described Cummings' playing as “guitar pyrotechnics” that were a mix of:
Cummings continues to record and tour, and has shared the stage with such greats as Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter, and B.B. King. One review of Cummings says his performance is:
