Bann Thai restaurant open in Edwardsville
A few weeks ago, Edwardsville foodies got a new place to try when Bann Thai opened its doors on Club Centre Court.
Devon Whitsell is the owner and head chef, and has worked in a number of Thai restaurants. Also, his wife is of Thai descent, and he has enjoyed the dishes prepared by her and her family. He says that he fell in love with her, her food, and her family, then paired that love with his experience with Thai food, and added his own spin.
Whitsell's twist is that he and his staff make everything in-house, from fresh ingredients. In describing some of his dishes, he reveals that he even makes his own curry paste, using it in khao soi, which is a curry-flavored traditional soup. Whitsell says that although his version of khao soi is different to that found in other restaurants, it is very popular. He adds that his menu is far more traditional than in many other restaurants.
Whitsell, who is a relatively young restaurant owner at 24, says he is excited by the response to his venture, going as far as to say the enthusiastic reception to Bann Thai surprised him. He acknowledges that it will take time to build up his clientele, but believes his restaurant will perform well in Edwardsville.
New enterprises like this can benefit if managers and owners welcome their first guests by distributing promotional products.
