Workshop to address mental health in agriculture

Statistics show that the agricultural sector is one where mental health tends to be a particularly prevalent issue, and this will be the focus of a workshop accepting registrations from those in the Urbana-Champaign area.

Illinois Extension has added a day of continuing education to its December schedule. Taking place online, it will be specifically geared towards farming families, and will equip the participants with tools and actionable advice they can use every day.

The organizers of the course explained that there is often a gap between agricultural families and the resources they need when it comes to mental health. This learning opportunity may help to ameliorate this. The participants will find out how to recognize the Signs of mental illness as well as how to respond to a crisis situation in both themselves and others. The goal of mental first aid is to provide support until the individual can access professional help.

While many workshops have been converted to an online format in response to the Covid pandemic, the learners may still appreciate receiving hard copy versions of the materials presented. These may be obtained by working with the graphic design team at a local brochure printing company.

This industry specific event is scheduled to be offered on Friday, December 10. It will start at 8:00 am.
