What's Happening in Champaign, IL…

Champaign schedules Touch a Truck day

Some big rigs will be bringing big fun to a Champaign venue, and everyone may enjoy the experience.

Those who appreciate heavy equipment and first responder vehicles and the people who operate them may want to attend the community’s fall Touch a Truck activity, which will be held at a local park. It will be filled with hands-on fun, and the vehicles are just the start of what’s in the works for the day.

The public that drops by will be able to climb aboard fire trucks, tow trucks, police cars and more, and they can flash the lights, honk the horns and ask questions from the personnel on hand. There will be other activities set up, such as face painting and inflatables, and food will be available. A sensory friendly hour will be included. While every effort will be made to make sure the gathering goes ahead as planned, it may need to be cancelled in case of inclement weather.

As with many activities organized in the city, Touch a Truck counts on the help of volunteers. Anyone interested can contact 217-819-3807. A printing services company can prepare tee shirts and other gear for the helpers at an event as well as certificates of appreciation for its sponsors.

These three hours of fun are scheduled to roll into Centennial Park in Champaign on September 27th. It will start with its sensory friendly hour, which will run from 10:00 to 11:00 am.
