Pool openings bring jobs as well as fun

Public pools in Champaign and the surrounding area usually open on the Memorial Day weekend, which is also the unofficial start of summer. According to a recent

news item, not only does the occasion mark the start of the season, it brings a lot of jobs with it.

In Champaign, Centennial Park's Sholem Aquatic Center opened May 28, and gave many teens from the local area employment for the next few months. They will be able to earn money and at the same time, gain valuable experience about what it's like to hold a job.

Ayana Exum, who is sixteen years of age, is one of those who has a position her for the summer. She will be working at the Aquatic Center in the pool area, and says she's excited about the new experiences she'll have there, including learning about customer service, and working concession stands. She has been coming to the pool and the center for years, and wants to help other visitors have as much fun as she has.

Exum says everyone is there to provide good customer service to visitors, and help them enjoy themselves.

Pool hours are from noon until 7 p.m. weekdays, and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends.

Center officials could work with a postcard printing company to create a card for a targeted Mailing to area residents, reminding them the center is open for the season.
