An annual event is scheduled for Champaign-Urbana, but the format will be different this year.
The University of Illinois’ engineering students have one weekend each year to display the projects they have been pursuing during the academic sessions. Students from every engineering discipline are invited to create exhibits at the Engineering Open House to illustrate to the public the role of science in life, and how technology will impact the future. Graphic design often plays an important part in creating compelling exhibits like this.
Corporations sponsor competitions and awards, helping to advance science by encouraging young engineers to pursue their dreams. Secondary and primary school students often attend the weekend, where the college-age young people share their love of engineering.
However, due to the pandemic, the exhibits this year are planned as a virtual experience. They will be available on the Engineering Open House website, either livestreamed or as a pre-recorded event. Organizers expect most engineering departments to take part. In addition to the presentations, there will be live DIY tutorials people can do at home, and live question and answer sessions. There will also be virtual tours of the University of Illinois campus, and several panels, as well as a keynote speaker, but no details are yet available.
The Engineering Open House is scheduled for March 26 and 27, starting at 8.00am on both days.
