A new “one-stop shop” providing assistance to people in need can now be found in Champaign.

Officials from the Housing Association of Champaign County (H.A.C.C.) recently cut the ribbon to open a new EnVision center in the city. The centers, which operate under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), are centralized hubs where people can find resources in four different areas, which the centers refer to as “pillars”: character and leadership, health and wellness, educational advancement, and economic empowerment.

The character and leadership pillar encourages individuals to participate in volunteer efforts, and to mentor others to help facilitate their own growth and development. The health and wellness pillar is designed so individuals will have access to care to provide better outcomes for themselves and their families, while the educational advancement effort provides opportunities for people to continue their education, often on non-traditional platforms, and in non-traditional ways. Finally, the economic pillar helps individuals become economically sustainable by giving them the chance to improve their economic situation.

David Northern, the CEO of H.A.C.C. said he was grateful for the support the effort has received from politicians of both parties, who have joined to support the community the center will serve. Darlene Kloeppel, the Champaign County Executive, agreed, saying she was excited to have the new center open in Champaign.
