Holiday magic coming to Champaign

The holidays in Champaign this year promise to be magical, with a very special performance on the schedule.

The Virginia Theatre in Champaign will be the venue for ‘A Magical Cirque Christmas’. The spectacle will bring holiday music together with cirque performers from throughout the world, creating a new production specifically for the holiday season. Acts include typical aerial performers, jugglers, clowns, and illusionists. In addition, world-class singers perform seasonal favorites for the family to enjoy.

A review of A Magical Cirque Christmas from the Midland Theater calls it an “absolute must for the holidays.” Some of the performers in the show may be familiar from appearances on America's Got Talent.

The show is from the producers of The Illusionists, a Broadway production that premiered in December 2014 for a limited, one-month run. The show returns each year at the holidays, as a different cast of magicians, illusionists, mind-readers, and dancers entertains audiences with family-friendly entertainment.

The Virginia Theatre was built in 1921, and seats 1,463. It was first home to vaudeville shows, then legitimate theater productions, and then became a cinema. Today it can host entertainment of all kinds, including both film and live performances.

A Magical Cirque Christmas is scheduled for 7:30 pm on December 11, at the Virginia Theatre. Poster printing is often used to advertise when events such as this are scheduled.
