Champaign welcomes the sounds of the Caribbean

A special concert, featuring the I-Pan Steel Drum Band, will allow guests to immerse themselves in the bright and cheerful sounds of Trinidadian music this weekend.

The Champaign Public Library may have used a collection of poster printing and flyer printing services to promote this concert to families and patrons in this community and the outer areas, especially targeting those looking for sounds associated with summer.

The I-Pan Steel Drum Band is made up by a collection of students that give a steel drum performance and attend the University Of Illinois School Of Music. The ensemble is student-run and is open to majors both inside and outside of music courses. The band mainly performs Soca music and Calypso, which are the native sounds of Trinidad and Tobago, where the steel pan was invented.

Students of I-Pan received hands-on experience with both writing and arranging their own compositions for the group, while also honing their skills on percussion, bass, and the steel pans.

The I-Pan Steel Drum Band is free to attend and will be taking place on Saturday, May 3, from 3:00pm to 4:00pm at the Champaign Public Library, Robeson Pavilion Room A & B, located at 200 West Green Street.
