Champaign will be celebrating the holidays with an event that promises to be stunningly beautiful.
Winter Nights at Porter Park will be a feature of the holidays in Champaign this year. One of the main features of the Robert C. Porter Family Park is trail that circles a meandering pond. The trail will be lit specifically for the holidays, and those who follow it will have many opportunities to take photos. The trail leads participants to a special mailbox, where children (of all ages) can post letters to the Jolly Old Elf himself. Banner printing can be used to provide directional Signs for events like this.
The park, which is on Rising Road, covers almost 40 acres, and the path is almost two miles in length. The space also features an area that has been returned to its status as a native prairie. In order to keep this section of the park healthy, controlled burns are used. The park is the first in Champaign to provide opportunities for passive recreation. It will also be the site of educational programs about the environment. One of the highlights of the park is a Ruth Aizuss Migdal sculpture, “Flamenco Revisited.”
Winter Nights begin this Friday, November 27, and will continue until January 3, 2021. Daily hours are from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm. The park district is following safety protocols, and people planning to attend should check for any changes in the schedule.
