Champaign residents have something to look forward to, as a new steakhouse moves to the city.

The new restaurant, which will be called Hamilton Walker's Steaks, Seafood & Spirits, will go into a vacant building on North Neil Street later this year.

The steakhouse will have a 1940s theme, and will comprise some 7,900 square feet. The restaurant will be operated by local investors, who signed a long-term lease on the property.
Broker Todd Salen is the agent on the deal, and says that demolition and clean-up are already underway, with the exact opening date contingent upon when construction starts.

As its name implies, the restaurant will feature seafood, spirits, and steaks, and will offer a carryout menu. The location will have outdoor seating and an area for private parties, and will welcome families.

The name of the restaurant comes from Champaign's history. The building was first an armory and then was the Walker Opera House, which was the first legitimate theater to be built in Champaign. Then, in 1917, the Hamilton Hotel was constructed on the same site.

Hamilton Walker's operators hope to have their restaurant open by the first of July or the first of August. Near opening day, the restaurant could work with a flyer printing company on a handout, with a coupon, to invite people to try the new place.
