Champaign plans pint-sized fishing derby

Champaign kids who enjoy spending time out in the fresh air and sunshine will be able to cast their lines when they take part in a derby-style fishing event.

The Optimist Club of Champaign-Urbana has scheduled an activity that will see kids take to the shores of Kaufman Lake for the Kids Fishing Derby. Parents are asked to remain on site with their children throughout the morning.

Kids who register will need to have their own tackle and other fishing gear, although bait will be provided to them. A hot dog lunch will be served, and prizes will be presented for top catches.

The whole family is encouraged to attend together, and there will be lots of photo ops and other fun. The Club’s website explains that one of its main goals is to offer programming for children and youth, with the fishing derby being just one of the events it has planned for this year.

When they arrive at the venue for the event, parents or guardians will be asked to fill in a permission from. Letterheads and other custom documents printed with a group’s Logo Design can be prepared by a Print shop.

This morning of fishy fun will be on offer on Saturday, June 1. Kids will start casting off at 9:00 am. The contact person for the activity can be reached at 217-819-3961.
