Champaign local to be honored at Parkland event

This week sees the 2014 Parkland College Art and Design Faculty Exhibition open at the newly named Giertz Gallery at Parkland.

The event, which takes place at the former Parkland Art Gallery, is the yearly showcase of the works created in the past year by the faculty of the college. Running from Monday, August 18th through Saturday, September 20th, the official opening reception takes place this Thursday (August 20th).

That will see the gallery officially renamed to the Giertz Gallery, in honor of Parkland College trustee Donna Hyland Giertz. The Champaign local has served the gallery for over 20 years and gifted a generous $100,000 for its upkeep.

Poster printing has likely taken place to advertise the event.

The Thursday rededication will feature music and display all types of art Forms created by the faculty in the year, such as sculptures, paintings, metal craft, and ceramic works. It will also feature examples of graphic design and a number of innovative digital media design creations.

The faculty displaying their works this year are: Louis Ballard, Stacey Gross, Craig McMonigal, Lisa Costello, Marsha Daniels, Paul Young, Larry Ecker, Melinda McIntosh, Blaine Wright, Laura O'Donnell, Chris Berti, Denise Seif, Peggy Shaw, Phil Smith, Joan Stolz, and Matthew Watt.

There will also be works displayed by Kelly White who, as an art history instructor at the college, will give a talk on the gallery.
