A popular gaming event that has been a staple in the area for almost 40 years is returning to Champaign once again.
Winter War, an adventure gaming convention held annually, is on the way. The convention was first held in 1974 on the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign campus, and was organized by the university's Conflict Simulation Society. Later, the convention moved to the University of Illinois where it was held in the Foreign Languages Building, and later still it moved off-campus entirely.
For 12 years, the convention took place at the Chancellor hotel, but the venue was sold and the convention was forced to move. In 2006, Winter War found a new home at the Hawthorn Suites, where it has remained. The convention was first organized to give tabletop gaming fans a place to gather to enjoy their passion in an atmosphere without distractions, and without frills.
Winter War 2020 is set to begin at 12:30 pm on January 24, and will continue until January 26 at 5:00 pm. Mythica Gaming LLC is organizing the event. Pre-registration begins December 1, and prices are $10 for a single day, or $15 if bought at the door. A three-day badge is $15, or $25 at the door. Hawthorn Suites on Trade Center Drive is the convention venue. Banner printing can be used to create suitable decorations for events like this.
